The vintage doll shop

Happy Saturday everyone! We had a public holiday yesterday (for football no less!) and so I got my doll shop out and finished off the shelf unit I started then painted everything blue. I was going for a more blue-grey, and lighter than it is. I tried aging and toning it down, but it is still too blue. I am not a big blue fan. I conferred with a friend and she is recommending green. I am now going to try green. Will try to post the results later. Wish me luck!

(You can see I ripped out some shelves. I will likely paper the back of the shelves)

  1. I personally love how it looks, but if its too blue for you, try getting some white paint and adding water to it. Then do some sponge brushing or almost dry brushing it over your blue. That might help tone it down.

  2. Hi Sheila. I kind of did that, but ended up with a really old old dingy finish. It doesn't show up so much in photos but just looks to crappy for a happy little doll shop. Also I find blue-grey quite depressing. For the record, it is now green. Looks better. I hope!

  3. I must say, although I'm not a blue fan either, that your cabinets co-ordinate really well with your wallpaper and you've made a lovely job of it but if you're not happy with it, it would bug you forever.

    1. Thanks Irene. Agreed, it did match the wallpaper, but there was too much of it. Maybe if I'd left the trim ivory and added wallpaper to the backs of the shelves, I might've been happier, but I still don't like blue-grey!

  5. Hello Shannon, I think it all looks fabulous. But I agree with Irene, if you don't honestly love it, it will annoy you every time you look at it. :) Can't wait to see what direction you take!
    All the best

    1. Thanks Vivian! I do look back at these pics and think it looks OK. But it's OK, the green feels cheerier to me! Hope your week is ticking along Ok, and you are getting work done on your own beautiful minis!

  7. Thanks Jay. The shelves on the left are MDF with basswood mouldings glued on the edges, and the ones on the right are purchased ones.
