More Mountfield changes!

Hello all on a bleary cold Victorian autumn day. Thought I'd show an update photo of the arch installed in the Mountfield bathroom, although it needs a little puttying and painting. Unfortunately the card bent a little where the arch meets the wall, but not much I can do about that. Sorry it's so dark. It's a very dreary day here.

Also thinking I'll change the loungeroom wallpaper. What do you think? It's warmer and more old-timey, and more along the lines of what I think should be there.

Here you can also see my carnival glass pieces and a new cabinet I purchased for here (it looks quite orange doesn't it?).

I am also thinking of changing the wallpaper in the front bedroom. These stripes are the wrong colour - imagine them in green. The alternative is the same wallpaper as currently there (Itsy Bitsy Mini) but in the green.

I really need to stop making changes to this house so I can move it out to start on other projects. To be honest, I'd like to start from scratch and make an English Edwardian townhouse in a Sid Cooke Highgate and do the Mountfield in 1940s style, but too late for that at this stage. Plus I can't afford the Highgate. Hope you are having a great weekend everyone.

  1. Shannon your bathroom looks Absolutely Amazing! The photo looks as though it were taken in a Real Life house. Your tile work is Wonderful and it appears from the pictures that this soft green is running theme throughout the Mountfield.
I'm agreeing with your desire to change the wallpaper in the front bedroom because I think that the green stripe will work better with your bedding.
The cabbage rose wallpaper in the lounge looks appropriate to the period, but since choosing paper patterns is not my forte, I just wait and see because I ALWAYS agree with your design solutions. :D

    1. Thanks for the comments Elizabeth, glad to hear you like my ideas. I am happy with the bathroom too, but it is a little squeezy fitting the accessories in. I am still in two minds about the lounge wallpaper. I have this idea it should be a little more Victorian formal, given the entry hall and dining room wallpapers are more Victorian/vintage-y. But I can't find anything that is really hitting the mark. I will keep thinking and looking. Xx

    Besos.

    1. Hi Alexandra. Thanks! The bathroom came up nicely, and I am happier with it at the rear of the house, but it is a little harder to fit everything in! I am not 100% convinced with the wallpaper, but will keep thinking/stewing on it! Have a great week.

  4. It's amazing how the arch made the bathroom pop. Brilliant.

I have no opinion on the lounge wallpaper, but don't find the cabinet too orange.

I do agree, though, that the bedroom needs green stripes.

What a cozy, comfy home. :)

    1. Hi Keli. Thanks for your input! The bedroom definitely needs more colour. You are like my husband - 'I have no opinion on that' can often be heard when I ask him questions about colours, or wallpapers, or other similar matters. The arch in bathroom finishes the room well for the supposed era of the house. Happy days! Xx

  6. I do like how the new wallpaper in the lounge picks up the green from the chairs. And the bathroom looks terrific! The bedroom I can't quite tell but I'll be curious to see how it turns out.

    1. Hi Sheila. I agree re the green in the wallpaper. I really want a floral for this room, but not quite finding the right one, although this wallpaper has the perfect colouring. And yeah my photos are a bit dark. This house is tucked in a bookshelf with a big house on my worktable between the bookshelf and the window. Hence not much light. Take care. Xx

  8. Love your bathroom Shannon. You've made that little space really interesting and I like your paper changes too, especially the floral in the lounge. Husbands are an odd breed with regard to minis. You can ask, get a vague answer and wonder why you asked in the first place because you knew beforehand what that answer would be!

    1. Thanks Irene. I am not entirely sold on the wallpaper yet, so that change will wait for me to stew over! And sometimes when I ask my husband, I know the answer I want anyway, and for some reason, asking him just clarifies for me! Haha! Hope your week is going well.

    1. Thankyou Marisa, that's so kind of you! I love the Sid Cooke houses. I think the names have varied depending on where they were sold and when they were made but not really sure. Take care. Xx

  12. I just love the bathroom, Shannon! The arch definitely adds so much charm and interest to the overall look. I can't see where the card is bent - looks damn good to me!
I think the new wallpaper is perfect and I really like the way the dark green chair rail and lighter green above bring the colors out in the paper. It all just looks "right". It also ties in nicely with the rug.
I love the carnival glass pieces - you found the perfect complementary colors to pull it all together. They style of the cabinet is lovely. What a great find! If you decide to tone down the wood, it might be even more stunning!
I do like the stripes and green seems like a good instinct. Maybe do a half wall with the striped paper on the bottom and a complementary paper on top? You could probably pull it off nicely since the headboard is a low one. I love the nightstand, too!
Never say you can't afford something. Thoughts become things. Visualize yourself working on the Highgate, don't worry about "how" it will happen, and it really will! I promise!

    1. Hi Jodi. The arch does add a lot of character to the room and hopefully is period accurate. And the wallpaper is pretty and great for a cottage feel but still not completely sold on it. I think the wallpaper will sit there a little longer til I decide. I do like the 'busy' feel of the wallpaper in an English cottage, it's very homely. And as for the bedroom, yes, maybe using two wallpapers would work? I could even just add stripes to the bottom and leave the original paper for the top. Given the current paper is fairly simple, adding a striped dado wouldn't make it too fussy. And thank you for the encouragement with the Highgate! Who knows? Maybe one day it will be mine. I could always buy the windows from the manufacturer and then cut my own structure. Or maybe in 1:24 scale? Hope you are enjoying your weekend and your cottage is coming along well. Xx
