Another tiresome Blogger question

Hi all. I am wondering how you add a new blog to your reading list. Does anyone know? There doesn't appear to be any way of doing this and a google search resulted in instructions for the old format. Of course. Sigh.

I am in a yahoo group and someone asked about whether people still read blogs and they seem to be less popular than they were. I answered that I think the constant updates and format changes frustrated people, given the changes often made things more difficult to operate. I am HATING the new blogger account page. Anyway, that's my 2c! Hope someone can shed some light for me!

Have a great day!

  1. Go to their blog and follow them. Then on your sidebar settings, click 'add to list' and it should prompt you to select from your reading list.

    1. Thanks for responding Sheila, and congratulations on your honourable mention in the creatin contest! Woohoo! Some blogs don't have a follow button unfortunately. Xx

  2. Good question well worth your posting.
These instructions actually do work :)

But I really do miss our old google reader service. It made a big difference in ease of following and for showing blogs you follow in the side bar. Those sidebar links do still work and it helps the miniature community who still blog if we make sure to have a widget showing them in our sidebars.

    1. Thanks Karin! Yes that worked! It is sooooo not simple now. I absolutely don't understand how they figure the new format is better. Xx

  3. Mine is in Finnish, so I'm not sure what the buttons say in English.. but here goes:
Once you have signed into blogger, click on the second last (above the instructions)link on the left sidebar.
On the next page, there's an orange button on the right on top of your blog reading list. Click on that to add blogs :)

    1. Thankyou Susanna. I didn't have an orange button but I did have a pencil. It turns out I couldn't see it as it was off the screen - the blogger window thing is bigger than the ipad screen. Anyway, thanks! Xx

  4. I don't know if this is the right way to do it but it's working for me - when I click on the follow button of someone's blog, their posts appear in my reading list. The only one's that don't are blogs supported by anything other than blogger (i.e. Wordpress etc). Those I have to add to my front page so that I can follow. Hope this helps :0)

  5. I have the same problem as you. Right now I am using my old computer with XP. I wonder if those who see a follow button are using another version ?

  6. I gave up on blogger and use an rss reader, Feedreader supports all formats and you can save interesting posts. Now all I have to do is catch up on hundreds of posts...... Real life keeping me away from the fun!!

    1. I don't blame you at all! I considered shifting blog providers a few times, but I just don't like how some of them appear or work for the reader. I used to use an rss reader thingo but I couldn't comment so I found it a little impersonal. Great examples of how technology doesn't always make things easier!

    2. You can still comment if you follow blogs, just not via the reader. If I want to comment after reading I go to the blog.

  7. Glad that all of the above were able to help you figure it out Shannon because I think I ended up clicking every button until I found something that worked. So although I couldn't tell you what did, I agree, the old format was easy and now it isn't!
Whenever there are programing changes, I always have to make an appointment with my daughter to come over and get my laptop back to where I know how to use it again.
I'd like to say to Blogger- if it Ain't broke, DON'T keep "FIXING" it!
and I know my daughter would agree ;P

    1. Ugh, I hear ya Elizabeth! Gah, they took a perfectly workable format and completely buggered it up. Royally. WHY????? It now operates like a 2002 website, not a 2017 one. Xx

  8. Thank you for this. I was also wondering how to do this! So annoying that they changed it!
